Future Star of Today: Anthony Rizzo
It’s the month of June which means teams can expect some callups from the minors. As for the Padres, Anthony Rizzo will be making his major league debut today against the Washington Nationals.
Anthony Rizzo was a sixth round draft choice by the Boston Red Sox in 2007. He was one of the top minor league prospects in the Red Sox organization. During last year’s offseason, he was acquired by the Padres along with three other prospects in exchange for three-time All-Star and gold glove winner Adrian Gonzalez.
I see “Rizzomanias” among the Padres fans which is completely acceptable. I’m thrilled to see him make his major league debut today and his potential in a Padres uniform. Even though the transition from the minors to the majors is difficult, I have high hopes that Rizzo will be a star. The big key for him is to take things slowly. As his journey in the major league goes on, he will be an exceptional player that teams need to keep an eye on. There is even a likely chance that Rizzo will be a starting first baseman for the Padres in the future.
Rizzo looks great….anybody know if he’s Italian or Spanish descent ?
