Another Beginning, Another New Year

Happy new year everyone! I can’t believe it’s 2011 already. It’s crazy how time goes by ridiculously fast. Because it’s the first day of a new year, it’s time for me to make a new start as well. I’m the type of person who comes up with bunch of goals on the last day of the year. Here are my personal goals for 2011. This is a blogging website so I created goals specifically for my blog. So without further ado, here are things that I’m looking forward to do during 2011.
- Improvement and more improvement.
Last year, I started making on the Latest Leaders list in MLBlogosphere very consistently. My best rank of the 2010 was #27, which was a surprise because I was hardly on the list in 2009. It was a pleasure seeing my blog and a number on the list every month in 2010. This year, my goal is to continue to be on the list but with a little bit of twist. I want my blog to be on the top 30 or even on the top 20. I’m going to do what I can to improve my craft. It’s not going to be easy but I’m going to step up my game even more.
- Continue with my segments.
I created two segments for my blog last year. They are monthly evaluations during the regular season and Future Star of Today. I did an evaluation and shared my top 5 Padres moments for each month. I believe that the monthly evaluation will reflect each month in great depth. I’m going to continue this segment this year because I think it’s a great way to look back. The Future Star of Today entries are where I give acknowledgement to the young Padres players. These entries will definitely be continued throughout this year as well.
Adding onto that, I want to add some creativity into this blog. I’m not the most creative person in the world but I’ll somehow come up with something new and interesting. This is going to be a bit difficult but like I mentioned earlier, I’m going to step up my game and challenge myself.
- Get connected.
I am constantly on social medias such as Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. I created links to all my sites on the “Miscellaneous” section which is on the right side of my blog if you scroll down. You’ll notice that there is a new link, which is a fan page of this blog for Facebook. I created a fan page today for you guys. If you’re on Facebook, please “like” Perpetual Padres Saga! I really want to expand my readership. So if you know any Padres fans, please tell your friends, parents, cousins, teachers, dogs, cats, or whoever about my blog.
Also, I want to stay connected with fellow Padres bloggers here and out of MLBlogs. They are outstanding bloggers and it’s an honor being able to share my blog and my love of the Padres with them. I also want to stay connected with my Twitter followers because what girl doesn’t want more friends?
- Stay active.
As most of you know, I’m in school. It’s really difficult for me to write an entry every single day or even once a week. Although I take some time off blogging due to school, my laziness is what’s preventing me to be active. This is a new year which means I’m getting a fresh new start and another chance. One of my biggest goals for 2011 is to avoid being lazy. You may not see it, but I am one heck of a lazy person. I know that being lazy and staying on the easy track will not going to cut it through my blogging life and just life in general. I will do my best to keep my blog updated and stay active. I will also do my best to visit blogs around the blogosphere and leave comments. I haven’t done commenting in such a long time because, well, of my laziness. I promise you guys that I will do a better job this year.
- Have fun and loosen up.
I wrote this entry last year to give you guys some ideas why I blog. At this point, I don’t care who reads my blog. As long as they give me a feedback, I’m happy. Good or bad feedback are welcomed anytime because it’s only going to make my blog improve.
I noticed that my writing tends to get “formal”. I know I may seem “robotic” in some of my posts, but I do have a personality and a sense of humor. One of my followers on Twitter encouraged me by saying that writing an entry is not a forced novel and I just have to let things flow. So Mickey, thanks for the awesome words!
So there you have it. I hope to achieve everything that I mentioned in this entry. My love of blogging grew tremendously and I want to have ton of fun this year. I hope you guys had a wonderful first day of 2011 and had a clean, new start!
Why do I blog?
My blog is…
I have to admit. My entries have been boring and flat lately. I noticed that I post pretty much the same thing over and over again. For example, I wrote so much about how Kevin Correia stepped up his game and became an ace. If you are a consistent reader of this blog, I’m sure you are sick of this fact. My apologies.
I also have a confession to make. I sometimes feel so confident about my blog that I brag on Facebook and Twitter and linking my entries with words like, “Check out my epic entry that you do now want to miss.” or “My blog is full of win.” It’s kind of pathetic to post things like that when I see typos or grammar issues on some of my entries. I don’t have a lot of time to write which means I rush to get things done and mistakes are still there. I do like to say positive things about my blog so I can ignore the fact about being ashamed that I didn’t make it on top 100 last year. If you check out this entry, you can tell that I was extremely upset and close to quit blogging. Another reason why I was so upset was because there were non-updated blogs for months that reached on top 100 while I did my best to not miss a single month. That was last year and today is 2010. I am not top 100 and life goes on.
Anyway, that was kind of off topic. So the question is, “Why do I blog?” I have three reasons:
- I want to try something new for my blog every time.
- I want to share my passion of the Padres and baseball in general through this blog.
- I want to improve of what I have.
I want to try something new for my blog every time.
Honestly, I didn’t enjoy writing growing up. Through this blog, it helped me to gain a love of writing and I think it’s really amazing. When I want to write an entry, I do my best to try something creative and interesting to make my blog worth reading. I even write some notes on a piece of paper when something major or minor about baseball comes to my mind. This does help save my time as well because I don’t like sitting in front of the computer and stare the screen for 30 minutes to come up with something to write. Sometimes the writing process on a paper doesn’t take up a lot of time. It can just be few words in a bullet format. I’m going to continue doing this so I can get creative.
Also, there are tons of different styles of writing. I think my blog is something that you don’t see by simply clicking on a baseball website yet still readable. I honestly don’t want to write about game recaps because they are always available around the Web. When I started blogging, I did some game recaps but it didn’t work out as well as I thought it would be. Sometime in July or August last year I chose to write entries that were my own original ideas. I’m glad I chose this way for my blog.
I try to be professional as possible as well. No bad language, correct spelling, etc. I’m choosing to write this way so it can help me write better when it comes to writing essays for school. I can always change my writing style if my readers don’t seem to have interest. I blog because I want to and this is for my readers. Without my readers, this website will be pointless.
I want to share my passion of the Padres and baseball in general through this blog.
I love my Padres with a passion and have been following them since 2005. Writing, which became another passion of mine, is incorporated with the Padres which is always fun when I have time to blog. I am surrounded with family members and friends who are not fans of Padres nor baseball. But with this blog, I am free as a bird and can write about the Padres all I want. It makes me happy that there are die-hard Padres fans like me in this community who loves to talk about this team. I’m glad I met Kaybee and John through this blog and even met them in person. They are great fans and it’s a pleasure talking Padres with them.
My passion for the Padres and baseball will never die but rather grow everyday. I love talking Padres and I’m willing to do so all day if anyone asks me. It’s a privilage writing about my favorite team and sport. I don’t want to stop writing which is why my blog title has the word “perpetual”. Every time I write, the writing is for my readers. Good or bad feedback are welcomed anytime because it’s going to make my blog improve.
I want to improve of what I already have.
When I started blogging, I couldn’t touch the keyboard and stared into my computer for enormous amount of times. When I look back at my old entries, I have to cover my face because they are way too embarrassing. I think some entries didn’t even make sense and off topic. However, I didn’t give up. That rewarded me to reach the top blogs list at times. Also, I got positive feedback from the king of Padres blogging, the one and only Gaslamp Ball. Now that, is a tremendous honor. I think the improvement also led to spread my blog around famous and great Padres websites such as The Friarhood and RJ’s Fro.
If I improve, I get positive feedback. If I don’t, I remain in the same place and harder for me to get better. I know this may sound like that blogging is my life but it’s not. It’s just what I like and what I do. Some people think blogging is a waste of time and I disagree with them. It allows to express who you are because there are no right or wrong answers about blogging. As time goes on, a blog can definitely improve. Like my own. Starting off with two sentences to this is a huge improvement.
I’m not going to stop. I will continue writing and this blog will be a true definition of “Perpetual Padres Saga” for a long, long time. Sooner of later, I hope this website can reach the top 10. Actually, my goal is to be on top 10. It’s going to be a great honor, especially if I become the number one Padres blogger here in mlblogs. Being number one Padres blogger around the Web will be a very tough task but I can try. My blogging journey will be continued.

Happy birthday, my dear blog!

Happy birthday, Perpetual Padres Saga!
Exactly a year ago, December 12th 2008, I started a blog and wrote my very first entry with literally two sentences. My blog’s name began with Made in San Diego and later I eventually changed it to more descriptive and creative way. It was a shaky beginning and it was so hard to even touch the keyboard to write in my blog. Thankfully as time progressed, my entries got longer and improved as well. I do strongly believe in my opinion. Referring back to my old posts, they helped me to just keep write, write, and write. Naturally, my writing skills improved which is amazing.
Looking back through the year, my life definitely changed with a start of new school year as a high school freshman in late July, growing up mentally and emotionally, and believe it or not, blogging changed my life in some way shape of form as well. I did get upset several times when my blog didn’t make it on top 50 every month. Then I realize that numbers are not the main thing of blogging here. It’s about how much passion and pride you show about your favorite team to others, sharing thoughts and news, and just be friends with your bloggers. My dream is to be a baseball reporter and blogging is my first step to express myself and show that I have a very strong desire to have this job someday. Without huge support from my family, friends, and my dear readers, this blog could have been pointless and shut down.
My goodness, I made so many great friends here in blogosphere! Seriously, I cannot thank you guys enough. It has been very fun reading and commenting on your great blogs throughout this year. All of you rock and I admire your blogging skills. I did have to take several weeks off blogging because of school, but other than that, things went smoothly. The work I have done with many of you came to a result with a record of 134 entires with 824 comments so far; This being number 135. I hope to double or even triple up those numbers by the time I celebrate my 2nd year blog birthday. My job and goal is to write that will be eye-popping that will have to express your thoughts even further. I will continue to blog consistently as possible to make you guys come visit here.
2009 baseball season has been a much better one from the previous years as a fan. With my blog, I was able to enjoy understand this game even more. This year, I was able to go to not one but three games out of 162. It doesn’t sound a lot but I enjoyed going to Petco to watch all three games. I finished the season by watching one winning game and two losing games. When baseball starts all over again in April, I hope to improve my record.
Top 5 Entries of the Year
From over 100 entries, I now present to you the top 5 entries of 2008-2009.
# 5: Baseball and Heels
This is one of my old entries. In fact, it was published all the way back in March! In case you didn’t know or happen to forget, I love heels. Heck, I even wear them to school sometimes when I really feel like it. Not stilettos or those crazy high ones, but I love cute shoes like black oxford 3-inch ankle boots for example. In this entry, I shared my feelings about loving baseball while incorporating my girliness, such as wearing shoes that are not-so-appropriate-for-baseball-or-other-sports-games. It turned out to be a sucessful one and I always put a smile in my face while reading the entry and the comments I recieved.
# 4: Night at Petco Park with three friends (bloggers)
I was able to go to Padres vs. Rockies game at Petco with Kaybee, Kylie, and Jen on July 18th. I had a blast hanging out with them, taking pictures, etc. Kylie totally cracked me up and I hope to see her again someday whether it’s going to be at Petco again, Coors Field or other ballparks. It will be so much fun. Same thing with Jen! This game turned out to be great since I got my very first autograph from my hero at a game, and the Padres won by the score of 3-1. Going to a baseball game is always like a Christmas to me, especially when you go with awesome MLBloggers.
# 3: Honoring Nick and the Angels
I wrote this entry the day after the Angels clinced AL West Division in September 29th. When the Angels yelled “Adenhart! Adenhart!”, ran toward to the picture of Nick Adenhart and touched it, said their words and prayers, they inspired me to write an entry about them. Losing Nick really hit me hard. I was crying nonstop, especially since he left in such a tragic way. He was a young guy who had so much bright path ahead of him. I wish I was at Angel Stadium on April 8th to see him pitch. Nick is, will be, a forever angel and nobody will forget him. No one. Los Angeles of Anaheim showed baseball fans across America a true meaning of high class. Also, 18 people recommeded this point and I am very greatful. Thank you my readers.
# 2: Goodbye Jake
I was very upset a long, hour when I heard that Padres ace, now a member of the White Sox, Jake Peavy got traded on July 31st. Jacob Edward Peavy pitched for us for eight years and it was just so hard to watch him leave San Diego. Jake winning 2007 NL Cy Young Award was very memorable to watch as a Padres fan myself. He had ups and downs, dealing with painful injuries, but he always fought back. Everytime he goes up the mound to pitch, the cute boy from Alabama with adorable southern accent will turn into a player who barks and yells at himself when something doesn’t go right. He is a fierce competitor, that’s for sure. I love the energy he brought to us and I will cherish those moments for a very long time. This entry consists of photo tributes and a long, personal letter I wrote to Jake. I hope he reads this someday!
# 1: A loss to the Padres, but a chat with David Eckstein? Priceless
Wow what a mouthful! On August 21st and 22nd, I couldn’t stop screaming. 21st was a Friday, and that was the day I got a very valuable e-mail from Ashley Eckstein. It’s not like everyday I recieve a mail from a famous person so this day was very special to me. My face felt so sore from smiling too much! The next day was even better. The Padres vs. Cardinals game that I went for free since I got the tickets from the Ecksteins also consited of getting autographs from Kevin Kouzmanoff and Chase Headley. I also had an opportunity to talk with David Eckstein infront of crowds (Technically, I was in the middle but let’s move on.), who looked quite jealous of me, which I felt bad a little. I believe I mentioned about this story about 2304987213 times but it is so cool to have this rare chance and enjoy it. Padres ultimately lost 7 to 0 on that day, but the score didn’t matter. I had a blast rooting for my boys and watching them play baseball. Will I talk with David Eckstein everytime I go to Petco? You bet I will!
There are more to choose from but those are strong and meaningful entries I have written thus far. I am so proud of my top 5! I read each of these entries more than once and it feels so good to read words that you are completely satisfied with.
Thank You!!!
First of all, thanks to Kaybee as my first commenter and Padres buddy. We are like sisters who are obessed with our boys! I hope to work with her someday. When she covers for the Padres and I become a Padres reporter, it will be extremely legit. She wrote the very first comment and it was so cool to know that people do read my blog. I had fun meeting her twice including watching a great game together yelling “Kooooooz!” and “Go Padres!!” so loudly. I can tell that she enjoys my blog and I really appreciate that. We already made plans to have our David Eckstein fun at Padres Fan Fest on February 13th which will be the day made up of Win with a capital “W”.
Also thanks to Mark, Julia, Jen, Emily, Kylie, Tom, Jeff, Ted, Matthew, Elizabeth, Virginia, Cat, diamondgirl55, xcicix, John and anyone else I forgot who deserves a big “Thank You!”. You guys definitely helped me out as well and kudos to everyone!
My fourth year as a baseball fan is the best season so far. Hopefully next year, more wonderful things will happen to me and I will definitely keep up my blogging to bring you guys back here whenever I post latest entries. Once again, thanks to each and everyone of you who read my blog consistently or just read one entry, wrote comments, and other great things you do here, in MLBlogosphere.
