Interleague games are not Padres’ friends
I have so much things in my head that needs to be in my blog right now. I will even give out progress report during the last three games later but I will mention some as this entry goes on. And I’m not giving good grades to favorites. Being fair is the key, folks.
N.L. vs. A.L. in middle of the season is a punishment. Unless it’s All-Star games and World Series. Padres have a tendency to lose whole bunch of games when they are playing against American League teams. Last season interleague series were a total joke. Friars lost twelve games in a row during June, and got swept by the Yankees, Twins and Mariners, three each. They totally embarrased me that I didn’t even know who my team is!
Summer games are supposed to be fun for every baseball fans. Especially when it’s vacation for me and interleague series take place in and out of San Diego. Well, interleagues SHOULD be fun! Since games against A.L. are now taking only half of my summer vacation, it’s not going to be fun as it should be. (My vacation used to be from mid-June to entire August! I want my summer back though. It got short like a scissor cutting a paper into half.)
It’s a good idea to be playing against other league more than three series in middle of the season, but it’s not so good for the Padres. I’m pretty sure they know it too. Unless, they like to lose instead. Interleague began not a long time ago. Ok, more like on Friday and I just want this whole thing to be over already. I’m that desperate.
The three games against Angels this weeked were really, really devestating. I don’t feel like talking about it but I’m thinking way too much. Padres made a frown in my face for three days straight. They just could not play solid baseball at all. Both Padres and I are just so confused and feeling blue. I can’t believe the series ended in a terrible way.
Angels totally damaged us by outscoring 26 to 7 for last three games. My brother had his own party going on today. It’s no surprise that the Padres got swept at Anaheim. Pitching for the Padres was like watching a scary movie at midnight.

Surprisingly, the bullpen did a fine job not giving up ton up runs. It was starting pitchers who did the huge damages and broke other neighbors’ windows. All Chad Guadin, Josh Geer and Chris Young’s performance disappointed me. On my previous post, I mentioned about him giving up like eight runs and ten hits in three innings. I give him a D- with that lousy performance on the mound.
Josh Geer did pretty much the same thing yesterday. He lasted short and gave up seven runs with three homeruns. I say a D. Josh Geer is a very nice guy who wants to be in the big leagues throughout the season, but he really needs to go back down soon.
Chris Young will definitely not be sent town to Triple-A, but he has a homework to do, that is to control his pitches, don’t throw so many pitches and settle down. This is exactly the opposite of what he did today, Chris Young made his shortest outing of the season and surrendered five runs in only little over two innings. He even allowed four straight walks to force in a run. NOT GOOD Chris. You deserve a D as well.
It’s tough being a Padres fan. Honestly, sometimes I wonder why I follow this team. They are struggling both offensively and defensively, below .500 and ace is injured. Get well soon Jake! We really need you.
Where was I? Oh yes, I need to hand the Padres thier grades now. This progress report is only for the last five games in Los Angeles and Anaheim.
1. Tony Gwynn Jr.: A-
He’s been playing good against the Dodgers. He led off in first inning in both games against the Dodgers. Against the Angels, he wasn’t as good as he should be.
2. David Eckstein: B+
Yes, I didn’t give him an A. He hitted behind Tony and reached bases safely in two games. Eck just got a single and a double in three games against the Angels. Thaf is so unlike him! I hope he can bounce back again.
3. Brian Giles: B
He’s been ok. Not good and not bad. He knocked in few runs against the Angels but didn’t do much of great things.
4. Adrian Gonzalez: B
It’s not entirely his fault that he didn’t hit any homeruns in nine games now, Pitchers are still walking him more and not giving Adrian a chance. When he doesn’t get walked, he usually struck out or just got out in five games. On Sunday, he had three hits in four chances.
5. Kevin Kouzmanoff: A
He was having fun and not his teammates. Kouz had two homeruns and knocked in couple of runs. He’s doing a great job right now and if he can keep it up, he’s going to do fine. I’m not worried about this guy unlike some players.
4. Chase Headley/Edgar Gonzalez/Henry Blanco/Wil Venable/Luis Rodriguez: C-
Their performances are just below average right now. Enough said.
5. Starting pitchers except Kevin Correia on Wednesday: D-
Like I mentioned before, they have been terrible on the mound for last five games. I was so embarassed by their performance. What were they thinking? They lasted so short and the bullpen had to help them. That is something starting pitchers should not do when they are running a game. So do me a favor and please step up.
So to some this whole thing up, Padres are really struggling right now and need to step it up in some way shape of form. Monday is an off day, which the Friars need it so badly and will host the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday back at home. Padres willl avoid their three game losing streak and a sweep and the Mariners will try to stop theirs. It will be very interesting to see what my boys can do to come back.
Two words: teamwork win
That’s what exactly happened last night against the Cincinnati Reds. Our six game losing streak ended AND our starter got a win first time since April 16th when Jake Peavy won against the New York Mets!
Adrian does his thing again

It’s not so suprising anymore. He’s been hitting real hot lately. Adrian got another homerun in the first inning off Aaron Harang. That was his 15th of the year and now leads Major League in homeruns. Way to go man!
By the way, there were brother reunions at PETCO. Adrian and Edgar Gonzalez were in the house and Scott Hairston and his older brother Jerry Hairston Jr. were there as well. Jerry played third. When he was at bat, he flied out to his younger brother at left field twice.
New faces, bye-bye to old faces
Duaner Sanchez and Edwin Moreno are now release. Duaner was a pain! No offense but he was. I could not stand this guy and he literaly irritated me. This guy is a pitcher who gives up ton of hits and homeruns! He definitely needed to go. Edwin Moreno is better then Duaner Snachez but Edwin needed to go.
A familiar guy was at the game last night. His name? Joe Thatcher. He got called up from Triple-A. I really don’t like this guy. He pretty much ruins for us.
Now for the real new faces. Greg Burke and Josh Wilson got the calls. Burke is in the Major for the first time. And no, he is not related to Chris Burke, our shortstop.
(Chris Burke)

(Greg Burke)
Anyway, Josh Wilson experienced Major League. We got this guy from the D-Backs. He can play short and third base. He played third base, taking over Kevin Kouzmanoff later in the game. Sorry about that Kaybee.
The comeback
So the Padres were winning 1 to zip. However, the Reds came back and scored 2 runs off Kevin Correia, our starter last night. It’s not Kevin’s fault because Brian Giles nmade a silly mistake. He should’ve caught the easy fly ball! Instead, the ball fell off his glove which made the Reds score twice.
I was thinking, “Oh no. What’s next?”
Luckily, Jody Gerut helped me. “It’s cool. We’ll help you and your friend smile back again.”
So what did he do? Got a RBI single in the sixth inning to make the game close!
Later in the seventh, Padres made a comeback thanks to David Eckstein(!!), Scott Hairston, and Kevin Kouzmanoff.
I swear David said this to me, or that’s what I thought. “Hyun Young, I know you want to see me hit so I’ll tie the game for ya.”
YAY! He really did it for me
Scotty and Kevin each got a RBI to take the lead now! Heath Bell came out of the bullpen with his song “Blow Me Away”. I really like this song. It’s perfect for Heath. He actually came out in the eigth with two outs. Luke Gregerson did a great job covering for Kevin Corriea. Heatth got the last out in the eigth inning and threw one scoreless inning in the ninth to get the four-out save. VICTORY!!
Quick note
The conversations and quotes look the similar like Kaybee’s entry. But I swear. I’m not copying. I wanted to try this and it worked! If I were to copy I wouldn’t be saying this. I wanted to say that to clear things up.
Way to go boys!
Well you guys can have your phones and ipods back now. Last night’s game was great. If you guys keep this up again, we can win another game.
Tonight’s matchup is Edinson Volquez against Josh Geer. Last year, I thought Volquez was going to win NL CY Young award. I was really off because he stuggled last half of the season last year. Oh well.
Josh Geer for the Padres struggled on his last outing. He only lasted 4 innings but I hope he can keep the momentum alive and win the game for us. Let’s go boys!!
An ugly sweep in Houston
Before I get to that, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY EVERYONE!!! My siblings and I are going to take her out to dinner. It will be fun. Yes. I am going to wear high heels
It’s a very special to day so have a blast everyone.

- Padres 4 Houston 5
That was last night’s score. They were so close but the bullpen (*sigh*) blew it again. And it was Chase Headley’s birthday!! HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY CHASE!! How does it feel like being 25 now?
Anyway, Kevin Correia started things off for the Padres against Brian Moehler. Padres really had a huge oppertunity because Moehler’s ERA was 14.00.
Well again, they did not take advantage. Or rather, they couldn’t. Moehler ended up striking out 6 Padres and gave up only one run. Kevin did a pretty good job pitching too. I think he had his best outing of the season. He lasted 6 innings, struck out 4 and allowed 2 runs.
David and Chase unite!
David Eckstein (heck yes!!!) scored first two runs for the Padres. At that point, it was scoreless. First time, he hit an RBI single and later he hit a double towards center to score Kevin Correia who hit a double (:O) Since David did everything he can, it was Chase’s turn to shine. Chase hit a two-run RBI double to make the score 4 to 3.
Are you freaking serious?
Kevin Correia left giving up only two runs. It was time for the bullpen to finish things off. Luke Gregerson was up first. He was REALLY shaky. He gave up a single and then a walk. It cost a game. Luke gave up three runs to give an one-run lead for the Astros. So we lost. SIGH. It’s really sad because he’s ERA at home is 0.00 but at road, he has an 11.88 ERA.

Today’s score: Padres 5 Astros 12

Josh Geer wanted to snap the losing streak. Unfortunately, he needed to work on his pitches first. Josh only threw three innings and allowed 7 runs (5 earned). If he hands the ball that early, that’s a problem. Because as you guys can see, the bullpen is not doing great right now. So as usual, they gave up like five runs to combine 12 runs total. Opponent pitcher Roy Oswalt got his first win of the season. I have to say, he pitched pretty good.
Three long balls
The offense provided three homeruns but it wasn’t enough for a win. But credits to Jody Gerut, Adrian Gonzalez, and Chase Headley. I hate to say this but Adrian’s been struggling lately. He is 7-for-34 in May with no extra-base hits or RBI. Well until today because of the homerun. So please get back on track!!
Off day tomorrow, game at Chicago on Tuesday
It’s time to face the Cubs. Gosh, I hate them so much. Jake Peavy (yay!) is up against Rich Harden. Hopefully, the Padres can really come up with a win. So until then, go Padres!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Our long, six game losing streak FINALLY ended thanks to the hero of the day, Brian Giles. I have to admit. He has a slump (came into the game with .153 average). This guy disappointed me a bit but I’m glad he was able to get things that are right for his team. Before I get to that, there’s a quick note about Josh Geer that I want to share.
Recap:

Starting pitcher Josh Geer started off for the Padres. His opponent was Aaron Cook for the Rockies. We faced Cook like a week ago in Colorado and lost. But anyway, Josh was on a roll. He impressed me so much during the game. Unfortunately, he ended up getting a no-decision. Josh gave up his win to Heath Bell, our closer.
Josh Geer. This guy did the best he could and he did it. The work ended up being throwing eight innings, giving up only one run and struck out three batters. He should be in the starting rotation and I really think he deserves to be at least a number five starter.
One-one game, so far
My boys got the first run of the game in the first inning, thanks to Jody Gerut. He allowed Brian to score, who got a single to start things off. However in the eight inning, Chris Ianetta, (who hit a grand slam last on the first game of the two-game series) hit another long ball towards left. This time was a solo shot off of Josh Geer. So he basically tied the game, and almost made us lose!
Brian Giles, our hero of the day
Without him, we could’ve lost or kept on going. And no. Not 22 innings like last year. Believe me I watched the game from 1st inning to 18th inning and fell asleep
My point is that Brian got a RBI double in the tenth to score pinch hitter Edgar Gonzalez from first base. Rockies bullpen Matt Daley gave up a walk to Edgar. Brian ripped the ball to right field and Edgar was hustling towards home and scored easily. That’s what I’m talking about!! A victory like this boosts our hopes even more. Especially a walk-off win.
Third place in NL West
We are now 7 1/2 back from first place, the Dodgers. They are on a roll! With a record of 20-8, I’m a little worried about them. But I still believe in my boys and have faith in them. GO PADRES!!!
Roller coaster game
It sure was. We ended up losing to the Dodgers tonight.

Josh Geer was up for the Padres and James McDonald got the start for the Dodgers. Things were looking pretty good for my boys because they took an early 3-1 lead. McDonald allowed three runs and walked four batters. He left the mound in only two innings.
Later in the game, the Padres were winning, 5 to 4. They got the runs by Adrian Gonzalez, a very solid hitter right now, who now has 20 RBIs this season. Padres later scored the go-ahead run on Kevin Kouzmanoff’s fielder’s choice. The Dodgers got some runs back in the third inning with one homerun each for Orlando Hudson and Manny Ramirez. Josh gave up both of them. I have to give credits to that guy though. He got a RBI single to “make” up what he did. But that wasn’t enough fo LA.
Dodgers tied the game on Mark Loretta’s RBI single and then took the 6-5 lead when Casey Blake raced home from third base when a throw from outfielder Brian Giles got past catcher Nick Hundley. Catcher Nick Hundley made an error which gave the Dodgers a lead even more. Final score in LA was 8-5, the Dodgers with a victory.
Do you want to leadoff, Mr. Brian Giles?
He’s usually a number three hitter. But tonight, he fliped-flopped with Jody Gerut. Our skipper Buddy Black gave a change to the lineup. In my opinion, it didn’t work out as I though it would be. Oh well.
Oh David, you are SO hilarious!
Take a look at this. Credits to Union-Tribune.
Headleyville?
The Dodgers opened an 11-game homestand Thursday night by unveiling Mannywood – a section of left-field seats where $99 (Manny’s number) buys two tickets and two T-shirts.
Which gave David Eckstein, a political science major while at the University of Florida, an idea for a “Headleyville” section at Petco Park.
“But we’d have to change (Headley’s) number,” Eckstein said. “You couldn’t be packaging tickets and T-shirts for $7.”
AHHH! This is cute. He’s a great guy. Hey, it’s not a bad idea at all! I have to agree with ”changing” Chase’s number IF we are going to do this.
Jake vs. Clayton
Jake is off to a pretty rocky start. He is 2-3 with 5.74 ERA. Not what I had in mind. Number two pitcher for the Padres, Chris Young has the same EXACT ERA as Jake! Clayton Kershaw in the other hand, is 0-2 with 7.29 ERA. I think the Padres are going to win tomorrow’s game by taking advantage of Clayton Kershaw. GO PADRES!!
Adrian shines, but Padres fell short

Adrian is on a roll, but the Padres lost today by the Rockies 7 to 5. Adrian hit another homerun which is his ninth this season. NINE already?? He must be crazy
Today, he hit a two-run shot. He is tied with Carlos Pena in the Rays with most home runs in Major League Baseball. Way to go and keep it up Adrian!!
Speaking of homeruns, catcher Henry Blanco hit one today as well. He hit a two-run homerun as well to get back on track. By the way, the Padres were really behind, by 7 to 0. Adrian and Henry’s long baseballs made those runs. If the bullpen kept the ballgame tight, we really could have won. I’m serious! Starting pitcher Kevin Correia struggled a bit and got the loss. He is now 0-2 with 4.71 ERA. I’m a little concerned with this guy now. Hopefully he can have his first victory as a Padre in his next outing.
Josh Geer vs. James McDonald
The Padres are off to four-game series starting tomorrow against the freakin’ Dodgers. Like I mentioned, Josh is up for the friars. His last outing was on Saturday against the Pirates. He filled in for Shawn Hill, who had soreness in his right arm. Josh was not as great as when he pitched against the Phillies. But he really deserves to be in the rotation.
Hopefully, I’m set in the rotation,” Geer said Wednesday in anticipation of a regular start against the Dodgers onThursday in Los Angeles. “I’ll do whatever they need me to do right now, but I would like to just be regular rotation, normal rest, and all that. But whatever they need me to do, I’ll do.”
(Quote from Padres website)
Nice. Very nice. I really hope he can be in the regular rotation with Jake, Chris and other guys.
Jeff Moorad
Today, the Padres fans and Jeff Moorad has a chat. I wanted to join but I was in school. There were great questions and questions I wanted to asked were answered. Great job and thanks guys
Finally some Padres pride on MLBlogs!!
As I went to MLBlogs website, I saw that Kaybee was in the main page with her picture. Way to represent the Padres! Kaybee, you really deserved this ’cause you are one of the hardest-working blogger. Hehe. My blog was in the bottom with other Padres’ blogs as well
I really felt good about this.
Scratched from today’s game
I’m still going to “follow” Khalil Greene. I mean, that’s what you do when your favorite player leaves to a different team, right? Anyway, he was pulled out from today because of his discomfort in right forearm and is expected to be out of the lineup for two to three days. Khalil is known for bunch of injuries so this is not suprising. He only had ONE season out of six-year career when he was healthy and didn’t get sent to DL which was in 2007, best year he ever had. All I can do is watch and see him get better.
Trevor?
The Brewers won today 1-0 against the Pirates so I was expecting Trevor to save. He didn’t. Here’s an option that will be unlikely to happen though: COME BACK TO SAN DIEGO!!!
