June Evaluation

Can you believe we are almost at the midpoint of the season? It seems like yesterday that we celebrated Opening Day of 2010. June has (almost) come to an end which means it is time for another evaluation of the San Diego Padres. This team is continuing to amaze myself, the rest of the Padres fans, and even other fans of different teams. Without further ado, I present to you the top 5 greatest moments for the month of June.

5. Taking the series at Tampa against the Rays.

178230_padres_rays_baseball

It may not sound special to others but it is for the San Diego Padres. We all know the Rays have been on top this season. Taking the series from the Rays was very important for the Padres because we needed to get ourselves on top of the NL West and especially since the Rays are an American League team. Game 1 was all about Mat Latos and his gem. He is continuing to mature as a pitcher and doing a very impressive job on the mound. Could he be the next Jake Peavy? Padres fans are not sure but who knows for now? I am extremely proud of my boys for their effort they showed in Tropicana Field.

4. Trailing from 8-0 and coming back to 10-6.

179253_rockies_padres_baseball

Padres lost on Monday of June 28th but this game really meant something. The opposing pitcher was Ubaldo Jimenez of the Rockies, which means the Padres had to face a tall task. Starting pitcher for San Diego was Kevin Correia and he was all over the place, to be honest. His commend was off and he had a terrible night on the mound. Kevin had a solid April but started to fall apart in middle of May. Simply, he has not been very impressive. Ubaldo Jimenez was going for a no-hitter but it was broken by David Eckstein. I knew Eck can handle these types of situations. After Eck broke the no-hitter, Padres offense started to pick up and we scored 6 runs in the end. At one point during the game, the score was 8-6. Unfortunately, Padres lost with the score of 10-6 but this game proved to everyone that this team does not stop. I absolutely love the energy and effort this team brought to the ballpark and I really enjoyed it. What this team has that many others don’t is that we never give up. I believe that the chemistry of effort and not giving up really makes a difference throughout the season. If a team does show this chemistry, then that team will most likely have a great season.

Coming back from 8-0 to 8-6 really blew the Padres fans and even the Rockies fans away. I hope to see something like this from the Padres throughout the season. We simply do not give up.

3. The Pen-itentiary

Img_2953_medium Img_2952_medium

Who is the pen-itentiary? Simple. The San Diego Padres’ outstanding bullpen. Our bullpen has been on top this season and even baseball fans know that we are one strong bullpen. Out of all, the three guys who stand out the most are Luke Gregerson, Mike Adams, and Heath Bell. Luke has been solid throughout the season so far as the 7th inning guy. Same thing goes out to Mike Adams, who is the 8th inning guy. Closer Heath Bell has been very consistent, as usual. Heath does scare the fans and shows a nail-biter games at times but that’s what makes the bullpen so interesting. These gentlemen show surprises. Pleasant surprises rather. I am digging the shirt that Mike Adams is holding in the picture shown above. If the Padres start selling this shirt, you bet I will purchase it.

Be aware of the San Diego Padres’ bullpen everyone. They actually do bite.

2. Sweeping the Marlins.

179002_padres_marlins_baseball

From the 25th though the 27th, Padres hit the road to Miami to play against the Florida Marlins. I have to admit that the Marlins are pretty impressive but it was the San Diego Padres who took the spotlight in Miami. We faced Marlins’ ace Josh Johnson on game 2 while we had Jon Garland on the mound. Jon Garland drove in the game winning run as a sacrifice fly. This series meant so much for us because we were ahead of the San Francisco Giants by 4.5 games, probably the biggest lead in NL West so far.

1. Still first place in NL West

That’s right. The San Diego Padres are still in first place in NL West. Beginning of the season, there were so many doubters who though the Padres are going to finish the season in last place. Guess what? June is almost over and the Padres are first place. This team does not stop but rather move forward. We take each game seriously and continue to stride. I don’t understand why there are still doubters who thinks some other team is going to finish first in NL West. I am not pointing fingers at them but do they not see this team in the spotlight? Yes, this season is pretty young. However, All-Star break is coming up and after the break, it is time for some serious business throughout the season.

So there you have it. The top 5 greatest moments for the month of June. I think the Padres are doing great but we still have so much to prove that we are the best in NL West.

Night at Petco Park with three friends (bloggers)

Padres lost to the Rockies on Sunday by the score of 6-1 but I didn’t really care. Mat Latos for the Padres made his Major League debut but got the loss. He’s from Double-A and the type of pitcher who only goes like five innings. This kid is stunning, however. His fastball is like 90-95 mph with accuracy. Jason Marquis dominated us again and now leads Majors in wins. Congrats!

On Saturday, I had so much fun at Petco with Kaybee, Kylie and Jen. All of us met at the front gate and when it opened, Kaybee and I went near the Padres’ dugout while Kylie and Jen went to take snapshots of the Rockies and get autographs. Before the game, I got an autograph from David Eckstein.

ECK.jpg picture by hyunyoung_95

(You can tell he was smiling at me and I gave one to him as well.)

Reasons why I love this guy:

1. He’s just adorable. And sweet. And cute. You get the idea.

2. In case you didn’t know, he is on DL. It was a pleasure for me to do this when he is injured. I just love this guy straight up.

Pardon my bad picture ’cause my camera has terrible quality. Anyway, that proved to be my good luck ball. Cool thing is that it was thrown from Kevin Correia. Oh, and he pitched on the game I went with three awesome people.

It was still before the game and me and Kaybee had time to get more autographs.

That was rookie Drew Macias signing Kaybee’s paper.

Edgar Gonzalez and Kyle Blanks signed as well. Those two pictures are NOT zoomed in. I was really, really close to them. I took a shot to get Kyle Blanks’ autograph but it didn’t work. This kind man asked me, “Want me to get it for you?” So I said, “Sure. Thank you.” Kyle didn’t have enough time. That’s all.

Oh and Tony Gwynn too. He’s like, “Me?” in that picture. Haha! It was very crowded so we didn’t have any chance. Tony is a very cool guy and us, the fans, love him.

Funny thing happened when we saw Will Venable on the fields to stretch. This little girl who was infront of me kept yelling, “Venable!!” and “Will!!” That was really cute.

Kaybee bought me a 5 for $5 deal. The deal is hot dog, soda, peanuts, popcorn and cookie for only five bucks. If you go to Petco one day, definitely buy it. It’s worth it and cheap.

Both of us also bought July issue of Padres Magazine with Adrian Gonzalez as a coverboy. We took time reading is and had interesting conversations. We said something like, “Ewwwwwww.” at the same time. It was a picture of the pathetic chairman John Moores. Both of us awwwed and ooohhed when we saw picures of Kevin Kouzmanoff and David Eckstein.

Funny story. There’s a picture of catcher Nick Hundley and manager Buddy Black. Nick “said” “How do you know he can’t hit a slider?” Buddy responded, “padres.com” This is really stupid. One. That was the cheesiest thing I’ve read. Two. Buddy looks so stupid in that picture, no offense.

It was almost time for the game and we sat in our seats. I saw a guy with bright pink Dora the Explorer backpack walking towards the visitor’s bullpen.

His name is Matt Daley and Jen remembered his name all by herself! I love his backpack. It looks good on him too!

The game finally began and I was ready for my Padres baseball. The pitching matchup was between Kevin Correia against Rockies’ Jason Hammel.

I guess Troy Tulowitzki wanted to be in the picture with Jason Hammel. Things got off to a very slow start. Both teams scored one run in the first inning. Brad Hawpe fot an RBI double and Dexter Fowler socred with two outs. As for the Padres, it was bases loaded and Kyle Blanks got a walk. Adrian Gonzalez scored and the game was tied.

I got kinda bored so I took pictures of Garrett Atkins for Emily and Kylie.

Enjoy guys :)

The game was boring since neither of them scored for a looong time. When Edgar Gonzalez got hit on his head by Jason Hammel’s fastball, I was so scared and speachless. That changed the mood of 28,652 fans who attended that game. Let me tell you, I was almost in tears. The sound of the ball was SO loud.

Poor Edgar. He was the only who got two hits before got hurt. Jason Hammel did not mean to do that. He looked sick when he came over to see if Edgar was alright. What a guy, unlike Carlos Zambrano who is a complete moron.

Back in May when Zambrano hit Eck’s chest, he didn’t even come up to him and said sorry. I wanted to punch Zambrano in the face so bad.

When the Padres changed some moves, Adrian Gonzalez was missing and Kyle Blanks took over first. I realized that Adrian went to the hospital with Edgar. Adrain did the right thing as a younger brother, a sibling, and best friend.

Chase Headley came up to pinch hit and it was a HUGE. The game was still tied until the seventh inning. Chase hit a homerun towards right field!

Padres scored another run by Eliezer Alfonso’s RBI single to take the lead by 3 to 1. Although he has a cool first name, I dislike him. He always messes up when it’s bases loaded. He stikes out the most during that situation. That is not cool.

Ninth inning means Heath Bell. I’ve never seen Heath Bell at Petco to pitch so it was very exciting to see him energetic and saving the game for the Padres.

I love his entrance song. It’s called Blow Me Away by Breaking Benjamin. This is totally the right song for Heath. My favorite part of the lyric goes like,

“Only the strongest will survive. Lead me to heaven when we die. I am a shadow on the wall. I’ll be the one to save us all.”

That’s epic.

Heath didn’t go 1-2-3 but got the save and Padres won!

When the game was over, all four of us met infront of Petco and took group shots. My parents (my dad especially), sister and brother looked tired. They told me that they were waiting for like an hour to pick me up. Whoops. Hey, I was having so much fun so they can’t say anything ’bout that.

Thanks to Kaybee, Kylie and Jen for making this game more fun. And Kylie, you are a one hilarious gal! I wish all four of us sat in the same area. It will happen someday.

Favorite pictures

This is Drew Macias and he is a cutie!

Kevin Kouzmanoff is on the left and Kevin Correia is on the bottom right corner. This picture is pretty hilarious.

Very, very cool fact.

Random Thoughts

  • In the end, I have ten pictures of Kevin Correia and Everth Cabrera as well. I like both of them a lot.
  • My camera stinks and I need a new one.
  • Happy birthday Jen!

Pitching like an ace

Well for last night’s game, Padres pitching staff certainly did not pitch like an ace. The bullpen could not hold on and the Padres lost in a miserable fashion, 10-1 to the Rockies. There were bunch of mistakes during first game out of four. One. Not one but two costly errors were made by the Padres. Two. 3-13 in runners in scoring position=FAIL. Three. 14 were left on base.

At least starting pitchers was alright. Chad Guadin did his best by giving up four runs, only one earned run and struck out eight. Instead of a win, he got the loss. Bullpen gave up six runs together.

The way my team played last night was completely unacceptable. If they play like this tomorrow when I go to a game, I will be so mad! There’s one bright spot for the pitching staff even with two starting pitchers on DL. His name is Kevin Correia. Since I don’t want to rant about how badly this game went, I’m just going to give some report about Correia.

Kevin Correia was born on August 24, 1980 who is Portuguese-American. He is a San Diego native and went to high school and college in that area. He was drafted by the Giants in 2002 in the fourth round. The year after, he became the first player to reach the major leagues from 2002 Major League Baseball Draft.  However, his career with the Giants have not been so hot. Correia spent time with both the Giants and minor leagues.

In 2006, he was auditioning for Giants’ fifth spot but couldn’t make it. He started that season in Triple-A and eventually got called up due to injuries and bad performance by the bullpen. Correia was sort of like 6th, 7th inning guy.

Last year with the Giants, he was mostly a starter but proved to be a free agent as the season ended with an ERA over 6 and lack of great performance on the mound. During 2009 spring training, he was a non-roster invitee but proved to be in the starting rotation along with 2007 NL CY Young Award winner and 2007 National League All-Star starting pitcher Chris Young. Correia had a very slow start so he got help from Padres pitching coach. In June, he started to come back little by little and lowered his ERA . Even with two starters on the DL, Correia proved that he is the new ace and he continutes to do his best.

(TIMMMEEEHH! with Kevin Correia :] )

Beginning of this season, I was like, “Who is this guy?” He proved me wrong by becoming the new ace of this staff and never giving up. He will pitch tomorrow so I am very, very exciting to see him. I wish him for the best and hopefully he will get a win!

Padres drop the first game out of three

It was a tough game in Colorado. The Padres just couldn’t seem to score runs out of Jason Marquis, the starting pitcher for the Rockies. He absolutely dominated us. Chris Young in the other hand, did an average job. The problem with him was that he allowed six walks and only two strikeouts. Chris gave up only one earned run in the second to Rockies’ catcher Yorvit Torrealba. Final score was 3 to 0, Rockies getting away with a win from us. Chris got the loss and he got it because of no run support. Jim Tracy took over for Clint Hurdle and won a first game as Colorado’s new manager. It’s unfortunate for Clint Hurdle. But it was time for him to move on. Back to the game now.

Like I said, Chris didn’t have the best stuff.

CY.jpg picture by hyunyoung_95

The only mistake he made was a hit to Yorvit Torrealba. There was lack of run support from the Padres.

Jason Marquis, however, was on a roll.

Padres could not solve Marquis at all! He tossed eight scoreless innings and struck out six Padres, even my boy David Eckstein. Speaking of David Eckstein, he had a good moment in the fifth inning.

He also stole a base in the third inning. When he was at the plate in the fifth, Jason Marquis “accidently” threw a baseball and knocked Eck to the ground. The ball did not hit him, thank goodness. Marquis threw it really close to Eck and he fell to the ground to dodge that ball. What a scary moment! I would have been so mad if he got hit by a pitch! He got hit 5 times already. But he got up as if nothing happened, brushed himself, and got a clean single on the very next pitch. That was beautiful. Normally, when players get into that kind of situation, they would just blow if off. But Eck did a totally opposite thing and came back from the fall. He showed professionalism and always have fun playing. That’s why I love this guy. Great job Eck!

Things got ugly in the bottom of the sixth inning. It was bases loaded for the Rockies with two outs. Next batter was Yorvit Torrealba and reached on base by fielding error by Kevin Kouzmanoff. Two runs scored and the score was 3 to 0. Poor Kouz. He made great plays before the sixth as well. So he was charged with first error of the season. Funny but sad story here: After he made an error, I said, “Ah come on Kouz! That was a routine grounder. You totally should have made that play.” Sorry Kaybee. I just had to say it. The next inning when David Eckstein came up to bat, he grounded into a double play! That was definitely a karma for me.

That was the ball game folks. Padres had oppertunities to score runs but they blew it. They grounded into more then two double plays so that was pretty sad. Hopefully they can turn things around in game two of the three game series. Josh Geer is up against Jason Hammel. Last outing for Josh against Colorado back in April was amazing. He only allowed one earned run. This should be a good game to watch and I just hope that we can win!

Picture:

That’s the foul ball from my teacher I talked about the other day. Sweet! The black spot is where Giants’ Travis Ishikawa hit the ball. I think.

15-Day DL for Greenie:

khalil.jpg picture by hyunyoung_95

This news is especially sad for me. All of you guys know that I still love Khalil Greene, right? If you don’t then now you know. But anyway, he was put on DL on Friday due to social anxiety disorder.

A person with socail anxiety disorder is afraid that he or she will make mistakes and be embarrassed or humiliated in front of others. The fear may be made worse by a lack of social skills or experience in social situations. The anxiety can build into a panic attack. As a result of the fear, the person endures certain social situations in extreme distress or may avoid them altogether. In many cases, the person is aware that the fear is unreasonable, yet is unable to overcome it.

(I just got that straight from Web MD)

Oh no! This is very devistating :( I love Khalil as much as Eck, Trevor and Jake, my four favorite players. He’s been really struggling in St. Louis. Khalil wanted and gave his best to bounce back from a tough season he had last year with the Padres but it just didn’t get going. I think the beginning of the season was the slowest start for him in his career. Cardinals’ skipper Tony La Russa said that Khalil put a lot of pressure on himself. That is 100 percent true because he hurt his own left hand by punching a storage chest (last season, didn’t play remainder of the season, blah blah blah) and when the Card played the Pirates a week ago, he left PNC with one hand bleeding!

This is what Albert Pujols said:

“I haven’t talked to him about what he’s going through, but I think I can help him with what he’s dealing with in the box,” He said. “Khalil’s got a lot of ability. I know he’s more than a .240 or .250 hitter. If there’s something I can do to help and he wants it, I want to help. He’s a good guy. He’s here to help us win.”

I miss Khalil like crazy ever since he left San Diego last year. He always took his game very seriously, and I know personally how being too critical of one’s performance can affect it. I just hope that this is not serious and he gets back to baseball soon. But first, he needs to take real good care of himself before he can even touch the baseball.

Sorry if I’m going on and on about Khalil. However, I have a lot of things to talk about this guy. This guy has so much potential and I know it. He puts wayy too much pressure and he’s only hurting himself and the team. Man, I wish I KNEW what’s bothering him! Khalil, please see a pyschiatrist and relax. Those are the only ways thay will help you. Ugh, I feel so awful for him and can’t imagine what anxiety disorders are like, but I wouldn’t think it would be very pleasant. Best of luck to Greenie, not just as a Padres fan, but as a fellow human being.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Our long, six game losing streak FINALLY ended thanks to the hero of the day, Brian Giles. I have to admit. He has a slump (came into the game with .153 average). This guy disappointed me a bit but I’m glad he was able to get things that are right for his team. Before I get to that, there’s a quick note about Josh Geer that I want to share.

Recap:

Starting pitcher Josh Geer started off for the Padres. His opponent was Aaron Cook for the Rockies. We faced Cook like a week ago in Colorado and lost. But anyway, Josh was on a roll. He impressed me so much during the game. Unfortunately, he ended up getting a no-decision. Josh gave up his win to Heath Bell, our closer.

Josh Geer. This guy did the best he could and he did it. The work ended up being throwing eight innings, giving up only one run and struck out three batters. He should be in the starting rotation and I really think he deserves to be at least a number five starter.

One-one game, so far

My boys got the first run of the game in the first inning, thanks to Jody Gerut. He allowed Brian to score, who got a single to start things off. However in the eight inning, Chris Ianetta, (who hit a grand slam last on the first game of the two-game series) hit another long ball towards left. This time was a solo shot off of Josh Geer. So he basically tied the game, and almost made us lose!

Brian Giles, our hero of the day

Without him, we could’ve lost or kept on going. And no. Not 22 innings like last year. Believe me I watched the game from 1st inning to 18th inning and fell asleep :) My point is that Brian got a RBI double in the tenth to score pinch hitter Edgar Gonzalez from first base. Rockies bullpen Matt Daley gave up a walk to Edgar. Brian ripped the ball to right field and Edgar was hustling towards home and scored easily. That’s what I’m talking about!!  A victory like this boosts our hopes even more. Especially a walk-off win.

Third place in NL West

We are now 7 1/2 back from first place, the Dodgers. They are on a roll! With a record of 20-8, I’m a little worried about them. But I still believe in my boys and have faith in them. GO PADRES!!!

Struggles everywhere

I am REALLY mad right now. Not to the Padres of course. I was writing and writng and I made a mistake while I was writing a link. My entry got vanished and I have to start ALL over again. ARGHHHH!!!

“Sigh” Here I go again.

The Padres’ losing streak extended to six. Last season, their highest was eight back in June. On road trip this past week, their record on road was 1-6, including a sweep in Los Angeles. I really wanted them to get back on track. It didn’t happen. Close, but not quite.

Oh yeah. Sunday’s game. I don’t want to get into too much detail ’cause I really don’t want to talk about the Padres’ “L”. To make a long story short, my boys lost by 7 to 3.

Recap

Rockies vs. Padres at Petco was disappointing. I thank this guy in the picture so much. He was the hero of the game by going 3 for 4 which included a three-run homerun, RBI single and a double. Scott Hairston was one triple shy of hitting a cycle. HUGE credits go to this man. His homerun actually gave a one run lead for the Padres! Unfortunately, it came to an end by Chris Iannetta’s grand slam off of Cla Meredith. One pitch made a differnece of the game. One. If Cla didn’t throw that pitch, we could have won. I swear. However, he was not charged with a loss. Edwin Moreno did. He deserved it because he was the one who gave up pair of walks and a double. Final score was 9 to 6, Rockies.

Kevin struggles

No, not Kevin Kouzmanoff :) He’s doing fine right now. I’m talking about Kevin Correia, a starting pitcher who was against the Rockies last night. He started off pretty strong but faded away by giaving up five runs with 8 hits. He needed 79 pitches just to get 10 outs. That should not happen when you are on the rotation. His performance as of now is pretty bad.

Bullpen blues

There’s an issue regarding the bullpen for the Padres lately. They blew at least two games! Guys like Duaner Sanchez and Edwin Moreno need to start packing up things. Speaking of bullpen, this man’s name came across my mind three seconds ago. The Padres fans should be familliar with him. So his name?

Mike Adams.

This guy was great last season. He was even on the list for 2008 TYIB’s setup man of the year! Mike finished the season by going 2-3 with 2.48 ERA and 78 strikeouts. He’s injured but he’s doing fine right now. The way bullpen is struggling lately, he need to come back and get back on track.

My thoughts

First of all, the Padres WILL get better throughout the season. I just don’t know when. My boys started off strong this season. But they are starting to lose thier wheels now. It’s frustrating especially when they were first place in NL West at one point! Now the Padres are 11-15 under .500 and 7 and a half games back from first place, the Dodgers. I need to put a sign around the Padres’ clubhouse that says

A “complaint” to those who are starting to give up

You guys don’t get it, do you? Why on Earth would you guys expect more than 100 loses this season already? As of today, the season is still young and there are plenty of baseball actions left. So I’m begging you guys, calm down, relax, and breathe. If you guys are thinking like that, I don’t get why you guys are Padres fans in the first place.

I’m confused

Today’s game also made me scratch my head and wonder  why we are starting to lose more than win. At this point, we are now 10-9. It concerns me a bit ’cause we got off to a great start. How? With an 8-3 record.

Chris Young pitched against Jason Hammel. I have to adamit. Chris struggled today. He allowed five stolen bases to leadoff hitter Dexter Fowler and gave up eight runs in his outing, a career-high. On the other hand, Jody Gerut had a good game. He went 3 for 5 which included his solo shot in the fourth inning. However, Padres lost by the score of 12-7. At one point, we were actually winning!

Get that ceviche out of the clubhouse for L-Rod!

That’s the food he ate on Saturday before the game. Luis Rodriguez had an allergic reaction due to ceviche, a Mexican seafood dish. He said he’s better and normal now. I’m glad he will be all right.

David Eckstein

He did a pretty good job today. He got two hits, one walk, and scored two runs. My boy is hitting .309 now. Yay!

Scary moment

It was in the sixth inning. Rockies baserunner Brad Hawpe was hit in the neck by a baseball on a pickoff attempt to second base by catcher Nick Hundley. He was taken off the field in a cart with a concussion. I actually missed that part but I really hope he gets better soon.

Chad Gaudin vs. Eulogio De La Cruz

That’s the pitching matchup for tomorrow. In case you are wondering who Chad is, I have a picture of him special thanks to Padres website. Well, those two pictures above are also from that website.

Can you please shave off that thing? The Padres called him up due to so many guys who are injured right now. Chad was released by the Cubs at the end of Spring Training. He’s taking the fifth spot, otherwise known as Shwan Hill’s, who pitched against the Pirates on Saturday.

Hell’s Bells in Milwaukee??

Unfortunately, it was true. Trevor came out of the bullpen and made his first appereance as a Brewer this season. He went to the mound to win the game for the Padres, er, Brewers. The part that bugged me was that they played “Hell’s Bells” when it was clearly NOT a save situation.  I actually saw the highlight reel on Postgame after the Padres vs. Rockies game. It was strange and kept me speechless.

Padres Report

First of all, I missed the game that was from yesterday. So I want to do a quick little recap of the game. It was against the Rockies. Padres lost that one, 4-2. Yeah, they gave their best but still couldn’t manage to win that one!! Oh well. Starter Chris Young gave up four runs on five hits. One of the hits were from Todd Helton. Relief pitcher Nick Schmidt gave up a hit and a walk in two scoreless innings. Basically, Chris Young’s one and only first rough inning cost the game. It happens to other pitchers so I’m not blaming on him.

That’s that. So today’s game was at Tucson. It was a heck of a game! The friars won big time. Final score was Padres 16, D-Backs 3. I love it!! Sorry Caroline. There were lots of runs so it was an exciting game. Non-roster catcher Eliezer Alfonzo hit a three-run homer and an RBI double. He had a very great game. Kaybee’s favorite Kevin Kouzmanoff had three doubles in four at-bats. Brett Dowdy hit a three-run double and Drew Macias added a solo HR in the ninth inning. I gotta say, Arizona’s starter Jon Garland gave up six runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings. OUCH! That was painful. Hopefully, he won’t do that again unless if it’s against the Padres :) Today’s San Diego pitcher Cha Seung Baek proved that he deserves to be a solid number 3 starter. He gave up one run on one hit with two strikeouts in three innings. It’s very nice to see him improve. I was expecting to see him do that so.. Jae Kuk Ryu, a relief pitcher, had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth, but forced Chris Snyder into a double-play grounder. That was excellent.

Even though I missed today’s game, it was very happy to see the Padres finally win after rough games last weekend. They need to keep it up and finish spring training games strong. Padres are off tomorrow, but they will face Team Korea in a World Baseball Classic exhibition on Wednesday in Peoria. By the way, Korea beat Japan, 1-0! Not the best score but I’m still happy about it. Kevin Correia is expected to start. He is scheduled to pitch anywhere from three to four innings, I think Correia is a pretty good pitcher who deserves a shot of being in the pitching rotation and lock it. He is consistant and knows how to work his pitches. The game would be very exciting on Wednesday! Hopefully, I won’t have homeworks on that day :)

There have been some negative thoughts about the Padres from the scouts. Here are some of the things Union Tribune mentioned:

Scouts consider the team’s No. 3 starter, Cha Seung Baek, more of a No. 5 starter or long reliever. They say No. 4 starter Kevin Correia may be better as a reliever but, echoing manager Bud Black’s comments, see some promise as a starter if he can develop his change-up. Concerns linger about No. 5 candidate Josh Geer, whose frayed elbow ligament raised talk last offseason that he would need reconstructive elbow surgery.

Cesar Carrillo – the club’s first-round draft pick in 2005 – is falling off some prospect lists. Nearly two years removed from reconstructive elbow surgery, Carrillo is showing a subpar fastball. His accuracy and body language also are grading below average.

Catcher Nick Hundley, the son of a college football coach, continues to earn strong reviews from Padres pitchers and manager Bud Black for his attention to detail. “We’re throwing a lot on him, but he’s got it in him,” Black said. Scouts say Hundley still has rough edges to smooth. Being pigeon-toed makes it more difficult for him to move well laterally. He is showing good arm strength but isn’t receiving the ball as smoothly as scouts would prefer.

None of the utility infield candidates are proving reliable at shortstop.

I don’t know if I should agree with them or not. I get what they are saying, but it just sounds… more like a negative!

I had a substitute for my science teacher today. Her name was Mrs. Giles. Haha. Brian Giles :) I almost started laughing because I thought of him right after she introduced herself. Oh man, that wasn’t even funny. I don’t know why I was acting like that.

All right, I’m done for today so goodbye everyone. See you guys next time whenever I visit :) Peace.

Again?

Today’s game took place at Peoria, and the Padres played against the Rockies. This was a game was filled with huge runs, and I mean HUGE. Unfortunately, the Padres fell behind again and lost by the score of 13-11. I didn’t listen to the game, but I was proud that the Padres finally showed what they can do, even though they lost.

In the fifth inning, Padres were trailing 5-1, until Chase Headley’s ball went deep. It was a huge three-run homerun from him! Kyle Blanks also hit a solo homerun and had two hits total for today. Both homeruns were from the new Rockies reliever, Huston Street. Chris Burke for the Padres drove in a run and also had two hits. Leadoff hitter for today was Drew Macias. He reaches base twice so it was great for him. Huge credits to Chad Huffman! He’s a new guy that I never heard of (and I feel terrible about that!), hit a grand slam! It happened in the ninth inning with two outs to pull San Diego within two. However, all those hits were not enough to pull of with a win.

(Chase Headley, you the man! Credits to Padres website.)

Starting pitcher Kevin Correia is looking forward to be the number 4 starter for the Padres during regular season that’s coming up soon. He allowed two runs in the first inning and then didn’t allow a hit over the next two innings. That was consistent and he did a good job throwing. Wade LeBlanc however, didn’t go as well as Kevin Correia. His goal is to earn a rotation spot. Today, he allowed two runs with three hits in two innings. Chad Reineke made his first appearance in spring training struggled as well. He allowed two runs in the sixth inning. I know they are young guys (exception fo Kevin Correia). I know they stuggle. But they have to get through this. This is getting ready to be prepared for 6-month games.

Padres gave all they had, but suffered with another loss. It’s great that they finally showed scoring oppertunities and actually driving them in. Their current record is 2-4-2. Hmm… what’s next? Can they improve the record? It seems that they are struggling a bit but they can turn it around. I just know it! Josh Geer is up tomorrow to make his second start against the Oakland A’s in Peoria. I can FINALLY listen to the broadcast since tomorrow’s Saturday! On weekends, I’m stuck at boring Middle School with no Padres games whatsoever. I already have plans for tomorrow: sit back, relax and enjoy baseball :) And not worry about Algebra homework because I don’t have any! The scheduled pitchers to throw are: Cla Meredith, Chris Britton, Mark Worrell, Cesar Ramos and Matt Buschmann. Good luck to every, single players and as always, GO PADRES.

(Off-topic) Currently, I’m learning how to play “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay on my violin by myself. It seems pretty hard to learn from the Youtube video I watched. Hopefully, I can manage to learn it completely.
