Short and Sweet

Thank you Trevor Hoffman.

Trevor Hoffman announced his retirement on Tuesday.

Let me tell you, he’s one of my all-time favorite players. I’ll never forget whenever I heard “Hell’s Bells” blasting in Petco Park. His entrance, the fireworks, and the song were breath-taking and eye-catching. He definitely pumped up the crowd whenever he got the baseball to save the day.

Whenever the Padres led the game by one or two runs in the ninth inning, I remember getting goose bumps whenever Trevor ran to the mound to secure Padres’ wins. Watching him on the stands is always memorable. All the great times Trevor shared with the city of San Diego will be secured in my mind for a perpetual amount of time.

It broke my heart to hear that he was done after 18 seasons and 601 saves. He’s an incredible player and an incredible person. His days with San Diego are unforgettable. The days he saved 1, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 saves are unforgettable. The day he became the all-time saves leader is unforgettable. But most importantly, Trevor being the greatest closer of all time will never go away.

I love him, I thank him, I congratulate him. He’s not a Padre nor a baseball player anymore, but he will forever be a Padre.

Thank you Trevor for all the amazing saves. Thank you for all the breath-taking strike outs. Thank you for all the smiles you put on fans not just in San Diego, but all over the country. Thank you for being a historical baseball icon.

Countdowns and such.

Padres Fan Fest will be held on February 12th. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this event. I haven’t been to Petco Park for couple of months so I desperately want to go to my “house” again. Last year’s Fan Fest was full of fun. I can’t wait to do this again in 28 days. I made a list of things to do for last year’s Fan Fest. I can hardly wait to get autographs of the Padres, tour the clubhouse, walk around the bases, take bunch of pictures with my new camera, interact with my Padres fans and so on and so on. I’ll have a complete list of things to do about a week before the Fan Fest so stay tuned!

Pitchers and catchers report will be on February 13th, right after the Fan Fest. This is great not only because baseball is getting closer but because I will blow out candles on the 13th. The report is a sign that players will be in action on baseball fields. I can hardly wait.

Now, is it spring training yet? Well, not quite. Mandatory spring training will be in 40 days. I can finally get a glimpse of what the Padres will look like during the regular season. I’m starting to get really excited about this season. I can’t wait to see what the Padres are able to do.

2011 regular season will arrive in 76 days. Padres will be in St. Louis for their first three games. Then the Friars will head home and face the rival San Francisco Giants on April 5th. Baseball is slowly but surely on its way. I can almost smell it now.

Padres Ramblings

(Part 1 of ramblings can be found here, which is dated all the way back in August.)

1. First of all, I would like to thank to those who wrote nice and encouraging comments on my previous entry. I will definitely take the advices and continue blogging. I’m here because I need to do what I love; having fun writing about my Padres. Even though I did not make it on top 100 for 2009 (Which sounds very, very ridiculous.), I will not back down. This should be a minor slump.

2. I recieved a comment from a fellow Padres fan who wrote this on my previous entry as well:

David Eckstein sucks.

Excuse me?! I still can’t believe this came from a fellow Friar Faithful. If you’ve been reading this blog, you should know by now that David Eckstein is my favorite player that I adore so much. It is obviously a plus that this person is a Padres fan. However, I can’t let David Eckstein garbage talk part slide. That was so rude and disrespectful and it was literally like a big slap in my face.

Eck has the word “grit” all over his face. I like this guy a lot because he works hard every single 162 games. He is a type of player that any team would want. He has two World Series ring and plus he was a World Seires MVP with the Cardinals couple of years ago.

Like I mentioned about 13274239012 times, he’s the most experienced player in the Padres and 2010 will be his 10th year in the majors. I don’t care if he’s the oldest out of the bunch. He looks young for his age anyway. I love the energy he brings to this club. He has a ton of energy for a little guy and that is definitely a true example of a true baseball player.

Oh, and this guy knows who I am. He even gave me a big hug when I went to a Padres game.

So therefore, David Eckstein does not suck. End of story.

3. Padres signed 41-year-old Matt Stairs to a minor league deal.

Matt Stairs #12 of the Philadelphia Phillies rounds the bases after he hits a two-run pinch hit home run in the eighth inning off Jonathan Broxton #51 of the Los Angeles Dodgers to take a two-run lead in game Game Four of the National League Championship Series during the 2008 MLB playoffs on October 13, 2008 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.

He is obviously a well-experienced vetran and having him is excellent for a very young club. This trade should not and will not hurt us. He did a great job with the Phillies as a backup and a strong backup is what we need. Our bench players have not been very great for last couple of years. I hope Matt Stairs can really bring something to the Padres when he plays in the majors throughout the regular season. It will be exciting to see him wearing a Padres uniform. Hey, he even lost 30 pounds during the offseason so far! Did he use Wii Fit like what Heath Bell did?

4. Relief pitcher Mike Adams avoided arbitration, so which means he will come back in 2010 season.

He is an amazing pitcher with very good numbers. Great move by the front office and I’m glad he’s back with us. The only problem with him is that he gets injured often. As long as he stays healthy throughout spring training and regular season, he should be a solid pitcher once again.

5. Padres Fan Fest will be in 20 days! I cannot wait to see my boys again. I miss all of them so much. There is no information about the Fan Fest whatsoever on the Padres website and I need to know as soon as possible.

6. I want Padres bobbleheads. Fortunately, there will be Padres bobbleheads as promotion, I believe. Seriously, David Eckstein, Kyle Blanks, Everth Cabrera, Chase Headley and Clayton Richard bobbleheads are going to be full of win.

7. I cracked over 900 comments, 20 on my previous entry, which is a new record! Now I have 920. Thank you guys so much for coming back here!

8. “Hell’s Bells” is playing on my iTunes right now. I miss Trevor Hoffman.

9. (The following two are not about the Padres nor baseball.)

San Diego Chargers epically lost to the New York Jets last Sunday. I missed church for a lousy game. Not good at all. Chargers as a team did not look sharp at all. Nate Kaeding was obviously a black hole while rest of the teammates got cr*p load of penalties, quarterback Philip Rivers threw couple of interceptions, etc. The game aggravated me so much! Now that Jets kicked us out of the playoffs, I will definitely not root for them. I would rather pick the Colts over the Jets if I had too.

   My picks are:

   AFC: Colts over Jets

   NFC: Saints over Vikings

   Super Bowl: Saints over Colts

Saints are my last hope. If they fail to impress me, Super Bowl is going to be boring.

10. I mastered LT Dance. Seriously.

Goodbye Jake

I apologize for not blogging for five days.

I got back from school about ten minutes ago and soon as I checked my Twitter, I realized that Padres ace, Jake Peavy got traded to the White Sox. Apparently, so much things can happen when I’m not surfing on the Internet.

OH HELL NO. Jake Peavy is officially gone. I’m sick, and feeling like crap. We got four pitchers from the White Sox and I don’t even know who they are. They asked Jake couple of months ago if he wanted to get traded and he said no. In a second attempt, Jake said “yes” and he left for his own good. I completely understand his words and actions but it’s so hard to deal with it. Jake was our ace and he made records, histories, and shared us, the fans, laughs and memories here in San Diego. He will be missed so much as he leaves San Diego, for now.

Jacob Edward Peavy was born on May 31, 1981 in Moblie, Alabama. Jake was developed by Padres’ minor league system after he got out of high school. He did not go to college at all. In June 2002, he made his major league debut as a Padre against the Yankees. As the time went on, Jake got better and better everytime when he came on the mound to pitch as a starter. In 2004, he lead the NL in ERA by only being in the Majors for three years.

2007 was a hell of a year for Mr. Peavy. He was selected to go to the All-Star Game that was held in San Francisco along with former Padre Trevor Hoffman and currently injured Chris Young. Jake was a key player that forced the team to play one game in the postseason against the Colorado Rockies on a Monday night in October 1st, 2007. This is also known as “Game 163: Falling Short”  I love that season so much. Except that horrible and sad game. Jake was absolutely stellar and the team was on a roll. He was a very key player that britghtened up the 2007 club.

Unfortunately, 2008 season was not the one to even think about. Padres struggled and Jake had a rough season with a record of 10-11. He had an issue with an injury as well. Hitters could not support Jake at all. To make a long story short, 2008 is a forgetful season for him, the fans and rest of the players.

Today, July 31st, 2009, my favorite pitcher Jake Peavy, has left the house. He’s been with this team for eight years. EIGHT! He will be very, very missed and I wish him for the best as a White Sox. Jen, you should be absolutely thrilled to have him as a part of the team.

Tributes

Dear Jake,

Thank you so much for all the great times you had here, in San Diego. The day I first heard your name, I didn’t exactly know who you are. But now, I am becoming a big fan of you every single day. It has been a rollercoaster ride during your eight-year career as a Padre. There were definitely ups and downs but all the fans appreciated you for having you to even pitch wearing blue, white and sand. It’s is truely devistating that you have officially left us and I am definitely upset about this. I understand the choice you made and it was a right thing to do for you. In life, there are obstacles and you have overcome “dangerous” ones. In off-season, refusing to go to Chicago as a Cub made me so happy. Since they were really close to acquiring you, I hate them even more.

About two months ago, the White Sox were having a serious talk about you. First shot for them didn’t work since you refused the deal. They made a second shot today and it worked for yourself and the clubhouse. The word “trading” makes me have goosebumps, tears and frustrations. I love my San Diego Padres and I care for every single players. If even one of them leaves San Diego behing, it will make me very disappointing. When I heard that you got traded to Chicago as a White Sox, my heart almost got torned into pieces. I got the same feeling when two great players Trevor Hoffman and Khalil Greene left almost at the same time. They were my favorites to watch ever since I became a fan. Now the same situation got carried towards me again. Heartbreak, tears, they all came back. I’m not the girl who cries for another person, except my family and friends. I don’t even cry a lot! Baseball and San Diego Padres are two things I am most passionate about and I had no option but to have teardrops coming out of my eyes. Call me a freak but this is what the die-hard fans have to do.

I don’t like trades. At all! Watching favorite players leave is absoluetely shocking. Baseball has trades and baseball is business. Which makes trading a business as well. You chose to leave the Padres organization, I’m OK with it. Since we don’t have the money to keep you as long as we want, you made a wise choice. Jake, you are a fighter and you always want a win. I mean, every players do. But you are one of the most aggresive (in a good way) pitcher I have ever seen in my life. When you threw the pitch you do not want, I see you barking at yourself to stay focused and get the work done. That is something other players have to learn from you. Jake, without corrective lenses, you are legally blind. That is one of the tough obstacle you have overcame and inspired so many people who have disabilities which makes them not eligible to play baseball or other sports. The ability to handle that situation without struggling made everyone love you! It’s so unfortunate to not have a chance to see you pitch in games I attended. One day I will go to a game that you are pitching as a White Sox or coming back as a Padre, in some way shape of form. Your song, “Sweet Home Alabama” is the perfect one for you and I love it.

Jake, you are off to a brand-new chapter of your career. Have a great time with the White Sox and I wish you nothing but a best. I am defnitely looking forward to see you in a new uniform, when the Padres play aginst your new team. Who could forget Jake Peavy? NO ONE. I will not forget you until I die. You are a one hell of a player and I always love watching you on and out of the field. Every single San Diego Padres fans and players will miss you.

By the way, you are a sweet boy from Alabama with a cute accent :)

Goodbye Jake. I’m gonna miss you so much. Have fun in Chicago!

Love,

Hyun Young

*Note*

The Brewers are in town right now for a three-game series against the Padres. That means all-times saves leader Trevor Hoffman will be back at Petco Park! Wow. Trevor is back and Jake is gone. This is so bitter-sweet. But I am super excitied to see Trevor back in San Diego, where he truley belongs. I missed him so much and I want to give him a big hug, if I can.

Padres win, middle school over, life is good.

I just got back from 8th grade promotion. So middle school is officially over for me. I will be going to high school next month, almost at the end of July. 8th grade was so much fun and I just turned to next chapter of my life.

But I got really sick yesterday. I had a terrible fever so I missed promotion practice and 8th grade party. Thank God I got better quickly and able to make it today. Even though I was sick, I didn’t miss Padres baseball on TV. No matter what, I will never miss any of the broadcast.

So that’s that. As for the Padres, they FINALLY won the first game against the Dodgers at LA this season. The part that was really cool was that they got the victory with sand uniforms. I hate them.

jake sand.jpg

See, they hate them too!! And I’m pretty sure every member of the Padres don’t enjoy wearing them at road. I seriously want to burn each and every one of the uniforms. But anyway, my point is that I’m glad we won yesterday. Kevin Correia was a huge part of this.

Allowing no runs and only one run were major keys to a victory for Correia. Even with a short three day rest, he pitched really well last night. He even retired 15 in a row! So Correia totally deserved the win and the bullpen helped him as well.

The final score was 3 to 1, Padres victory! Those three runs were from Kevin Kouzmanoff, Edgar Gonzalez, and Chase Headley. Great job and thanks guys! They were enough to get a win.

Other side

nick.jpg picture by hyunyoung_95

Catcher Nick Hundley did not play last night like he’s supposed to. He has a bruised left wrist and his x-rays were negative. It’s very likely for him to miss few gams so I’m hopoing that he will be alright very soon!

As for Padres shortstop Josh Wilson, I’m about to give him a free pass to Triple-A.

He is not doing a great job right now. I’m not very happy about it and he should feel the same too. The shortstop has one hit in his past 21 at-bats. Batting average for is pretty laughable with .105 with a .190 on-base percentage.

Sorry man, but you need to go very soon.

Padres vs. Angels

My brother is an Angels fan and I am a Padres fan. I’m really looking forward to weekend series at Anaheim because we will be cheering for our teams during the broadcast. I bet him that the Padres are going to beat the Angels tomorrow. This should be a very interesting game since it’s the first interleague showdown for this season.

Guess who?

trevor.jpg picture by hyunyoung_95

Ok. I really gave that one away. Yes, it’s TREVOR HOFFMAN. He’s doing a great job in Milwaukee and I am so proud of him. He has 15 saves without giving up a single run. I really, really miss this guy. He was San Diego’s all-time favorite, and obviously mine as well. I just wanted to bring this up to show how he’s doing. It’s still unbelieveable to see him saving for a complete different team!

Trevor, good luck and finish strong this season! Hopefully we will hear a word about you possibly returning to San Diego.

Adrian shines, but Padres fell short

Adrian is on a roll, but the Padres lost today by the Rockies 7 to 5. Adrian hit another homerun which is his ninth this season. NINE already?? He must be crazy :) Today, he hit a two-run shot. He is tied with Carlos Pena in the Rays with most home runs in Major League Baseball. Way to go and keep it up Adrian!!

Speaking of homeruns, catcher Henry Blanco hit one today as well. He hit a two-run homerun as well to get back on track. By the way, the Padres were really behind, by 7 to 0. Adrian and Henry’s long baseballs made those runs. If the bullpen kept the ballgame tight, we really could have won. I’m serious! Starting pitcher Kevin Correia struggled a bit and got the loss. He is now 0-2 with 4.71 ERA. I’m a little concerned with this guy now. Hopefully he can have his first victory as a Padre in his next outing.

Josh Geer vs. James McDonald

The Padres are off to four-game series starting tomorrow against the freakin’ Dodgers. Like I mentioned, Josh is up for the friars. His last outing was on Saturday against the Pirates. He filled in for Shawn Hill, who had soreness in his right arm. Josh was not as great as when he pitched against the Phillies. But he really deserves to be in the rotation.

Hopefully, I’m set in the rotation,” Geer said Wednesday in anticipation of a regular start against the Dodgers onThursday in Los Angeles. “I’ll do whatever they need me to do right now, but I would like to just be regular rotation, normal rest, and all that. But whatever they need me to do, I’ll do.”

(Quote from Padres website)

Nice. Very nice. I really hope he can be in the regular rotation with Jake, Chris and other guys.

Jeff Moorad

Today, the Padres fans and Jeff Moorad has a chat. I wanted to join but I was in school. There were great questions and questions I wanted to asked were answered. Great job and thanks guys :)

Finally some Padres pride on MLBlogs!!

As I went to MLBlogs website, I saw that Kaybee was in the main page with her picture. Way to represent the Padres! Kaybee, you really deserved this ’cause you are one of the hardest-working blogger. Hehe. My blog was in the bottom with other Padres’ blogs as well :) I really felt good about this.

Scratched from today’s game

I’m still going to “follow” Khalil Greene. I mean, that’s what you do when your favorite player leaves to a different team, right? Anyway, he was pulled out from today because of his discomfort in right forearm and is expected to be out of the lineup for two to three days. Khalil is known for bunch of injuries so this is not suprising. He only had ONE season out of six-year career when he was healthy and didn’t get sent to DL which was in 2007, best year he ever had. All I can do is watch and see him get better.

Trevor?

The Brewers won today 1-0 against the Pirates so I was expecting Trevor to save. He didn’t. Here’s an option that will be unlikely to happen though: COME BACK TO SAN DIEGO!!!

I’m confused

Today’s game also made me scratch my head and wonder  why we are starting to lose more than win. At this point, we are now 10-9. It concerns me a bit ’cause we got off to a great start. How? With an 8-3 record.

Chris Young pitched against Jason Hammel. I have to adamit. Chris struggled today. He allowed five stolen bases to leadoff hitter Dexter Fowler and gave up eight runs in his outing, a career-high. On the other hand, Jody Gerut had a good game. He went 3 for 5 which included his solo shot in the fourth inning. However, Padres lost by the score of 12-7. At one point, we were actually winning!

Get that ceviche out of the clubhouse for L-Rod!

That’s the food he ate on Saturday before the game. Luis Rodriguez had an allergic reaction due to ceviche, a Mexican seafood dish. He said he’s better and normal now. I’m glad he will be all right.

David Eckstein

He did a pretty good job today. He got two hits, one walk, and scored two runs. My boy is hitting .309 now. Yay!

Scary moment

It was in the sixth inning. Rockies baserunner Brad Hawpe was hit in the neck by a baseball on a pickoff attempt to second base by catcher Nick Hundley. He was taken off the field in a cart with a concussion. I actually missed that part but I really hope he gets better soon.

Chad Gaudin vs. Eulogio De La Cruz

That’s the pitching matchup for tomorrow. In case you are wondering who Chad is, I have a picture of him special thanks to Padres website. Well, those two pictures above are also from that website.

Can you please shave off that thing? The Padres called him up due to so many guys who are injured right now. Chad was released by the Cubs at the end of Spring Training. He’s taking the fifth spot, otherwise known as Shwan Hill’s, who pitched against the Pirates on Saturday.

Hell’s Bells in Milwaukee??

Unfortunately, it was true. Trevor came out of the bullpen and made his first appereance as a Brewer this season. He went to the mound to win the game for the Padres, er, Brewers. The part that bugged me was that they played “Hell’s Bells” when it was clearly NOT a save situation.  I actually saw the highlight reel on Postgame after the Padres vs. Rockies game. It was strange and kept me speechless.

Good Bye Trevor

trevor2.jpg picture by hyunyoung_95

It’s official. He’s gone. He signed with the Milwaukee Brewers for one year. This is ridiculous. Why the hell would the Padres (front office to be exact) trade the ALL-TIME saves leader? He made histories at here, in San Diego. It’s really hard to see him leave. When I heard the news, I was like, “I don’t get it. Why him?” He’s been here for 15 years. It is WRONG to go to an another team when he was here for this long. Why should he add his save record in another uniform? He belongs here. When the Padres lead in top of the 9th, every Padre fans stand up and scream. This is our thing. Whenever I go to PETCO (and when the Padres are winning), I wait for him to come out and save the game for us. I get the chills when I hear his own song, “Hell’s Bells”. NO ONE should use that song. Not even Heath Bell, the Padres eight-inning guy who’s going to be our new closer this season. Trevor was our own little celebrity. Yeah, he struggled and failed several times. But he fights to keep the faith and win out there. He’s the all-time, greatest closer of MLB. Padres fans are upset and so am I. (I feel your pain, Kaybee). The pathetic front office just let him walk out the door, without any good byes, thanks for everything or whatever. Shorter version? They kicked him out. This is what John Moores said, “We don’t want Trevor.” IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE, MOORES?! After Trevor did everything for San Diego, you’re just kicking him out? We should’ve kicked YOU out, Moores. Someone please get this man out of here! I’m sick of him now. That’s the worst padres news I’ve ever heard. I hope Trevor’s future is bright without Moores. Trevor, show everyone that he’s a moron! A man like Moores deserves to be humiliated.

Random thought (not related to baseball) : Another sad news (For me, actually). My friend got hit by a car today after school. I pray to God that he’s all right! Oh man, worst day of 2009 so far.
